WHERE OUR QUALITY EXCEEDS YOUR EXPECTATIONS!

Ice Dam Guys' parent company – Palumbo Services, Inc. – opened its doors in 1995 and incorporated in 1996. Since the very beginning, we have taken great pride in old-fashioned customer service, professionalism, and a job well done. We have always strongly believed in the old adage that "any job worth doing is worth doing right!" We've been around for more than a decade and looking forward to a century in business. With 17-years of ice dam removal experience under our belt, Ice Dam Guys has a perfect A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau. You will surely be pleased with your decision to use Ice Dam Guys. Our quality will exceed your expectations!

Ice dam removal work can be quite expensive, but trust us when we say "hire a professional". We have seen more damage done to rooftops by homeowners and non-qualified (often times uninsured) contractors than we can keep count of. It's important to remember that the shingles atop your roof are very delicate and need to be treated with great care.

High-pressure water, hammers and chisels should NEVER be used atop your roof in an effort to remove ice. Steaming and/or low-pressure hot water is the ONLY safe and effective way to remove ice from your rooftop without damaging your shingles or gutters! If snow is to be removed from atop your roof, make certain your contractor is using ONLY poly-edged shovels.

Because ice dam removal is such an expensive process, it draws in a lot of contractors who have little to no experience in removing ice dams. Make certain you hire a qualified and insured contractor who uses only steam to remove your ice dam! Ice Dam Guys is your one-stop-shop for safe and effective professional snow and ice dam removal services.

Ice Dam Definition: "An ice dam can occur when snow accumulates on the slanted roof of a house with inadequate insulation and warm air leaks into the attic at penetrations for plumbing stacks, wiring, chimneys, attic hatches, recessed lights, etc. These warm air leaks are known as attic bypasses.

WHAT CAUSES ICE DAMS?

An ice dam is a ridge of ice that forms at the edge of a roof and prevents melting snow from draining off of the roof. The water that backs up behind the dam can leak into a home and cause damage to walls, ceilings, insulation and other parts of the house.

How ice dams form on your roof:

  1. Indoor heating rises through the ceiling into the attic and warms the roof surface.
  2. Snow of the heated part of the roof melts and flows down until it reaches that part of the roof that is below 32 degrees. Water freezes into an ice dam.
  3. The dam grows as it is fed by melting snow above, but water held by the dam backs up and stays liquid.
  4. Eventually, the water finds cracks in the roof covering and flows into the attic, from where it could seem through the ceiling and the interior walls.

THE 2 EASIEST THINGS YOU CAN DO TO
PREVENT ICE DAMS

  1. Clean leaves, sticks, and debris from gutters and down spouts each fall. This basic maintenance will allow melting snow to flow into the gutters and down the spouts as intended.
  2. Remove the snow regularly from the roof with your Roof Snow Scraper. By keeping the snow load to a minimum, you will reduce the chances of an ice dam forming. You don’t have to clean the entire roof area, mainly the bottom edge of the roof, about 3 or 4 feet wide along the eave edge. After you have cleaned off the bottom edge of the roof the snow will melt off when the sun comes out, this will keep the eave edge free of ice.

Ice dams are only a symptom of the problem. The real problem is poor ventilation and insulation.

Testimonials

We had huge ice dams and a friend recommended the Ice Dam Guys. Unlike everyone else I had called, they responded promptly and arrived when they said they would. They were polite, personable and helpful on the phone and on the job. Everything was explained upfront and they removed a large portion of ice from the major problem area on our roof with their steaming equipment. They did an excellent job. I highly recommend this service. Expensive but worth it

Ice dams suck. I’ve lived in Boston 43 years and never had one before. After the worst winter in Boston history, I finally had an ice dam. I’ve got a super-steep roof. These guys came when they said would and worked real hard removing the dam. Real good experience working with these guys – I hope I never need an ice dam removal company again, but If I do, I’ll call The Ice Dam Guys.

I live in Massachusetts and we had a record breaking snowfall this year. We had a major ice dam problem that caused leaking into the house. I made a call and was able to get a team to my house the next day. I was amazed because of the amount of homes with damage in the Boston area. The team came out and explained what they were going to do and quickly went to work. They did an excellent job! I can only imagine how bad our damage could have been if not for the quick response from The Ice Dam Guys.
